In your review of The name of the Rose I think you give a better answer of what art may have to do or be if it wishes to escape from the postmodernist and or modernist world view. In some sense it has to forget that it is art (or perhaps remember that it is art) depending on how you want to look at it. It is exceedingly dangerous to try to offer solutions or proclaim what art needs to do in a difinitive way because as I believe you point out in your book review such solutions are ready made tombs, but I can't help thinking that art is best when it has its root in the primary mystery between man and everything else. Its strength and perhaps motivation comes from the sense of not knowing rather than knowing.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
